Pipe Foreman Job Description
Pipe Foremen will assist in the supervision of craft activities to assure optimum productivity and construction
compliance. They will supervise the lay out, assembly and installation of all types of pipe, including water,
storm and sewer pipes. They will study the project specifications with Pipe Superintendent to plan
sequencing and schedule for pipe installation.
Key Duties:
• Coordinate and supervise daily activities of a 2-7-person crew.
• Utilize heavy equipment to excavate, install and backfill drainage pipe.
• Sequence pipe installation to reduce interference with other project activities and the public.
• Continually inspect work site, surveying for potential hazards or safety concerns.
• Responsible for crew safety. Establish a safe work environment that complies with the Company
safety program.
• Observe assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions. Assure the proper operation and
maintenance of equipment.
• Analyze job cost reports to ensure production is within budget.
• Review and approve employee time reporting.
• Maintain professional relationship with Owner.
• MUST be able to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
• Process timesheets daily to record hours, attendance, material and equipment on a per job basis.
Qualification Requirements:
• General: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above
“Key Duties” satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill

• Education and Experience: This position typically is NOT an entry-level job, as it requires
demonstrable previous experience as a Pipe Foreman. A high school diploma or general education
degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively
with management, fellow employees and Owner. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience
required. Valid Florida Driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.
• Physical Demands: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met
by a Pipe Foreman to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
o Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least
eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to
stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform “Key Duties”
o Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation
of hand powered tools.
o Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times, as much as 90
pounds, as may be assigned.
o Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms,
power tools and hand tools.
o Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs and use of arms and hands
in repetitive motions.
o Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site,
including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary
equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
o Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
o Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
o Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of
excavations up to 15 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required.
o Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather
conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rated capacities of
up to 300 tons.
o The Pipe Foreman must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
• Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described below are representative of
those that a Pipe Foreman encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
o Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
o Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease and
dust that are typically associated with a construction project.
o Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
o Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as
form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
Requirements
- Must have experience with sanitary, water, sewer, storm, and/or pressure pipe
placement.
- Experience with deep excavation is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Comply with industry standard safety regulations.
- Ability to communicate with foreman and crew.
- Pass pre-employment screenings including drug screen and I-9 verification.
Foremen must also –
- Have knowledge of work plans and specifications.
- Be proficient with lasers, line and grade.
- Pay is dependent on how well the candidates experience correlates with duties
required.
